Volume III, April to October 1818, of one of America's earliest literary magazines, which reprinted the best essays, stories, poetry, memoirs, reviews of the fine arts, and scientific news from leading English magazines for American readers. Why it's special: an early Boston imprint from just after the War of 1812, published half-monthly by Munroe and Francis, with rare period provenance: the original subscriber's handwritten binding note listing each issue from "April 1st and 15th 1818" through September, "making 3d Vol.," plus a clipped signed letter closing from John F. Delaplaine tipped in at the front. Red quarter leather binding with gilt-ruled spine. The spine is split.
