Lobed lozenge-shaped Copeland Spode dessert dish in the Devonia shape, 10.5 by 7.5 in., decorated in the Blue Italian pattern with a classical landscape of ruins, a castle, and a herdsman framed by a scalloped floral border. Made in Stoke-on-Trent, England in July 1911, as shown by the impressed Copeland date code on the base. Shaped dishes like this were made as serving pieces in English dessert services for fruit and sweets, and it is lovely today for serving or display. Marked on the base with the blue Copeland Spode's Italian, England backstamp, the impressed Copeland crown mark, and a second brown mark reading Devonia, Copeland Spode England, with registered design number 493267, which dates the shape's introduction to 1906.
